Krispy Kreme (the original) Review
Vernon Rudolph bought a secret yeast-doughnut recipe and started frying them in Winston-Salem in 1937, and Krispy Kreme grew from that one shop into an institution the whole South runs on. The move that made it a religion is the neon “Hot Now” sign: when it’s lit, the glazed doughnuts are coming off the line still warm, and a warm original glazed is a different, better food than the one in the box at the grocery store. The historic Stratford Road location is the mothership.
