Table Rock State Park Guide
In the far northwest corner of the state, the Blue Ridge Mountains rise abruptly out of the Piedmont in a wall called the escarpment, and Table Rock — a great granite dome the Cherokee said was a table for a giant — is its landmark peak at 3,124 feet. The 1930s CCC-built state park at its foot is one of the most beautiful in the South: a stone-and-timber lodge, a swimming lake reflecting the mountain, and the strenuous Table Rock Trail climbing to a summit with a view clear across the Upstate. Nearby Pinnacle Mountain (3,425 feet) is the highest peak entirely within South Carolina. This is the cool, green, waterfall-laced corner most people don’t know the state has.
