Grand Rapids Guide
Grand Rapids has been voted “Beer City USA” and packs more than 80 breweries into the metro, but reducing it to beer sells the second-largest city in Michigan short. Every fall since 2009, ArtPrize turns the whole downtown into an open, free art competition — around 800,000 people come to vote, and the public grand prize is $100,000. Add the Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park (158 acres, opened 1995, with a Rodin and a rotating glass conservatory) and the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum, honoring the only U.S. president from Michigan, and you’ve got a full weekend before you’ve touched a taproom.
