Doumar's Cones & Barbecue Review
Doumar’s is a piece of American food history still running as a Norfolk drive-in. Abe Doumar helped popularize the ice cream cone at the 1904 World’s Fair and built a four-iron rolling machine to make them, and that very machine — or one just like it — still sits in the front window, cranking out waffle cones by hand the way it has for over a century. It’s a genuine carhop drive-in: pull up, flash your lights, and a server brings barbecue pork sandwiches, limeades, and those fresh cones to your car window. Anthony Bourdain came here; so has half of Norfolk, for generations. Family-run since 1934 at this spot, it’s the real, unbroken thing.
