Old Bisbee Guide
Bisbee was one of the richest copper camps on Earth — the Copper Queen mine pulled billions of pounds of ore out of these hills, and by 1900 this was one of the biggest cities between St. Louis and San Francisco. When the mining stopped in the 1970s, the town didn’t die; hippies and artists moved into the steep Victorian houses stacked up the canyon walls at a mile high, and Bisbee turned into the funkiest small town in Arizona. The streets are staircases, the old miners’ cottages are galleries and B&Bs, and the giant Lavender Pit open-mine gapes right at the edge of downtown.
