Sedona & Oak Creek Canyon Guide
Sedona is where the desert turns the color of a struck match — towering red sandstone formations with names like Cathedral Rock, Bell Rock, and Snoopy Rock glowing above a town that’s equal parts hiking mecca and crystal-shop kitsch. The rock is Schnebly Hill sandstone, iron-oxide red, and at sunset it lights up like coals. Whatever you make of the “vortex” energy business, the hiking is world-class and the drive down Oak Creek Canyon from Flagstaff is one of the prettiest stretches of road in the state. It’s beautiful enough to forgive the traffic and the price of a smoothie.
