Coca-Cola was invented in Atlanta in 1886, when pharmacist John Pemberton mixed up a caramel-colored syrup and it was first served at a downtown soda fountain — and it grew from that one drugstore into the most recognized brand on Earth, still headquartered in the city. The World of Coca-Cola museum downtown tells the story, shows the (real, guarded) vault holding the secret formula, and lets you taste dozens of Coke products from around the world in the famous tasting room. Whether or not you’re a fan, drinking a Coca-Cola in the city that invented it — ideally an ice-cold one from a glass bottle — is a genuine only-in-Atlanta rite.
